With student demand at an all-time high, it’s the perfect time to list a job

SJS_2025_1016

April delivered a strong lift in student engagement compared to the same month last year with 6412 new student registrations (+107.7%) and 37,548 job applications (+19.7%) year on year. This reflects strong intent from students to engage in work alongside study.

The successful launch of our new student mobile app on 28 April, saw more than 1000 downloads on its first day. The app has been designed with students, for students, and introduces features such as Quick Apply to better support them in a highly competitive job market. Ultimately, this will improve the access you have to this enthusiastic and flexible workforce.

There were more than 3800 vacancies listed on Student Job Search in April, up 8% compared to April 2025. This is a positive result in a market where young people continue to face heightened competition, but demand for jobs still far exceeds supply.

The good news for employers and householders is this demand for work means any job you advertise should receive great interest. So, now is the perfect time to look at your workforce or around the house and see if there are any potential jobs that would suit a student.

Perhaps you need some help around the house? Are you sick of mowing lawns? Wish the house would clean itself? Need a babysitter? Students are ideally placed to pick up this sort of work. They can often start as soon as tomorrow and are more flexible than professional services.

Don’t underestimate the positive impact you have on a student by giving them these opportunities. As one student recently told us, it’s often more than just a job.

“This work has been, by far, the most rewarding work I've ever done. I've developed my leadership and communication skills, and my role has definitely taught me to problem solve quickly and be flexible, not to mention being patient.”

When the economy is struggling, or there is a lot of uncertainty, it is often young people who feel the pinch the most. Many students are juggling multiple roles simply to maintain financial stability. Access to work is no longer just beneficial; it is critical.
