We are seeking a reliable and efficient Kitchen Hand to support our restaurant operations at Base Woodfired Pizza (107 Montreal Street) and assist with events and catering. This role is ideal for a fast-paced individual who thrives in a team setting, with plenty of summer hours available for those who demonstrate speed and attention to detail. Reporting to the Operations Manager or shift leads, you'll play a key part in maintaining smooth kitchen and front-of-house workflows.
Base Hospitality is a Christchurch based business specialising in woodfired pizza and experiential dining. Our operations span multiple locations, including Little High Eatery, Riverside Market, and our new flagship restaurant at 107 Montreal Street. We also manage Food by Fire for high-end catering and Element Tipi for premium event hires. With a central prep kitchen ensuring consistency across sites, we prioritize efficiency, quality, and innovation in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities
- Clear tables in the restaurant promptly and discreetly to ensure a positive dining experience for guests.
- Efficiently clean, dry, and return dishes, utensils, and equipment to their designated storage areas, following hygiene and organisation standards.
- Assist the bar team with tasks such as restocking glassware, preparing garnishes, or basic cleanup during peak times.
- Support the events team with cleaning and setup duties, particularly for Food by Fire catering and Element Tipi hires, including post-event breakdowns.
- Maintain overall kitchen cleanliness, including wiping surfaces, emptying bins, and adhering to food safety protocols.
- Help with basic prep tasks as needed, in coordination with the central prep kitchen team to uphold ingredient consistency.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Previous experience in a kitchen hand, dishwashing, or hospitality role is preferred but not essential training will be provided.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a high-volume environment, with strong attention to detail.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights (e.g., trays of dishes), and handle busy shifts.
- Team player with good communication skills; familiarity with tools like Discord for shift coordination is a plus.
- Availability for flexible hours, including evenings (Tuesday-Sunday, 3:00 PM-9:30 PM), weekends, and increased summer shifts for events and catering.
- Must be eligible to work in New Zealand and committed to food safety standards.
