About Us
World of Containers Ltd is based in Hamilton and specialises in container repair, maintenance, and refurbishment, along with container delivery and yard operations.
We play a key role in supporting New Zealand’s logistics and transport network, providing quality, efficient, and safe repair services for a range of container types.
We’re looking to connect with students or graduates interested in hands-on trade and logistics work over summer, with the potential to move into a formal apprenticeship in 2026.
Purpose of the Role
This role is designed for someone who wants to build strong all-round trade and yard operations experience.
You’ll support our container repair, yard, and delivery team with a mix of fabrication, maintenance, forklift work, and general site operations.
The position can transition into a full apprenticeship programme in the New Zealand Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Fabrication/Trade) [Level 3–4].
Key Responsibilities
Assist with repair, fabrication, and maintenance of steel and aluminium shipping containers
Carry out tasks such as:
- Cutting, grinding, welding, and fitting container components
- Replacing doors, flooring, panels, and seals
- Preparing, cleaning, and painting repaired surfaces
- Operate a forklift to move and position containers safely in the yard
- Drive a Class 2 truck (if licensed) to deliver and collect containers across the region
- Perform general yard maintenance and housekeeping (e.g., keeping work areas tidy, weed control, basic site upkeep)
- Follow all workshop and yard safety procedures
- Support the wider team in day-to-day operations and lend a hand wherever needed
- Participate in on-the-job training and, if progressing to apprenticeship, attend Wintec training as required
Training and Development
- Opportunity for paid, hands-on trade and yard experience over summer
- Potential to transition into an apprenticeship with Wintec in 2026 (Mechanical Engineering – Fabrication/Trade Level 3–4)
- On-the-job mentoring and training from experienced tradespeople and operators
- PPE and training resources provided
- Exposure to workshop repair, transport logistics, and equipment operation
Key Skills and Attributes
- Positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual labour
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely
- Forklift licence (or willingness to obtain one)
- Class 2 truck licence preferred, or willingness to train toward it
- Good communication skills and a team-player approach
- Reliable transport to our Hamilton yard
Hours and Pay
- Full-time or casual (Monday to Friday)
- Pay: Starting at the relevant entry-level or training rate depending on experience
- Overtime and weekend work may be available during busy periods
