Wellington City Centre, Wellington, Wellington

$35.00 per hour

fixed-term-temporary

Start Date: October 13, 2025

Hours Per Week: 6.00

  • Flexible timelines to work around your schedule. Deadlines will generally be set by agreement. You'll primarily work autonomously.
  • A collaborative, creative and supportive working environment
  • This is an opportunity to see your designs in the marketplace and used by artists for years to come

Work with an up and coming small business! Based in Wellington, we design and manufacture tools and materials for artists. We are focussed on developing products that are functional and beautiful, sustainable and environmentally responsible. We want our customers to know they can buy once and buy well when they shop with us.

We are looking for a confident and skilled graduate industrial designer/product designer to work in partnership with the owner who is an artist too. Our ideal candidate will have an interest in design and art generally. We are looking for someone who is as obsessed with beauty and function as we are!

This is a fixed contract to be paid hourly. While this job is a fixed contract, there is the possibility of further work in the future for the right person. Hours are flexible, the majority of the work will be working from home with some face-to-face meetings, and any deadlines can be negotiated together. The job is based in the Wellington Region.

To start, we need up to five small tools designed/redesigned in a variety of materials. We anticipate that the work of designing/redesigning tools will involve:

  1. looking at examples of existing tools,
  2. initial designs and refining designs,
  3. preparing drawings and/or other files for the manufacturers,
  4. meeting with the manufacturers if needed, and
  5. being involved in some user testing with prototypes.

There might be items/tasks additional to the list above that we identify during our work together - these will be discussed and agreed upon at the time, and will also be paid hourly.

You must have solid, proven abilities in industrial/product design. You must have strong technical and digital capabilities.

This role is ideal for a new graduate or a post graduate of industrial design.

Please provide a link in your application to your portfolio/website/social media/previous work - anywhere that shows us your work.

A willingness to use all of your creative skills and knowledge (for example, illustration, tattoo art, fashion design, painting, any kind of textile art) in this job is a bonus. In addition to your industrial/product design experience, please feel free to list any other creative skills and interests you have in your cover letter and/or CV.
