Mastery Schools New Zealand – Arapaki (MSNZ – Arapaki) is a full time school for Year 1-8 ākonga who are disengaged, or at risk of disengaging from mainstream schooling. The Assistant Teacher role is filled by an education student who is still studying. The role is for 2-3 days a week, 8.30am-1.30pm, permanent part-time.

The key responsibilities are:

• Assist with in-class teaching duties under the direction of a teacher.
• Facilitate and support small groups as directed by a teacher.
• Keep records of support strategies and curriculum.
• Adjusting student's Individual Learning Plan.
• Provide administrative support for Teachers when necessary.
• Playground supervision, as well as accompanying students on excursions as required.
• Attend professional development and training required by the school and actively seek opportunities to increase knowledge, experience and skills held.
• Where appropriate opportunities present, become involved in the life of the school in order to promote community and contribute to objectives of the school, including attendance at staff, teachers and faculty meetings as required, working with volunteers and work experience students, becoming involved in school events.
• Ensure the safety, welfare and wellbeing of students.

• Ability to successfully engage young people in relevant and dynamic learning.
• Able to develop good working relationships at all levels.
• Able to self-manage and meet deadlines.
