Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting an Events and Programmes Coordinator to join the Careers and Employment team on a permanent, full-time basis. The role will be responsible for supporting the operations of the team.
Key responsibilities:
- To facilitate the recruitment and employment of students and graduates by coordinating and promoting careers expos, networking and employer events.
- To provide administrative support to career mentoring programmes.
- To ensure strong customer service and maintain effective relationships with students, employers and alumni.
- Promote events and opportunities through targeted communications, social media, and collaboration with internal teams.

You will be a proactive, customer-focused individual who gets joy from engaging with students and graduates. You can positively influence and support a high performing team, as well as having the confidence to provide effective and timely administration support in a complex environment.
You will thrive in this role with a curious mindset, and the willingness to learn and get excited about issues relating to the career development and employability of students and graduates. The role is varied, with scope to contribute to a wide portfolio of work within the team. Ideally you have an interest in social media and digital technologies, as well as understanding how to connect with diverse groups across the University.
You will be a highly organised self-started and natural relationship builder, who relishes working autonomously as well as contributing to a collaborative team. You will feel confident building and managing relationships with diverse stakeholders, even when their priorities differ. You will need effective time management and forward planning to balance meeting deadlines and maintain a high standard of service to both students and staff.
Key requirements:
- A university degree with relevant experience or equivalent combination of extensive relevant experience and education/training.
- Experience in organisation, promotion and management of events.
- Experience and confidence in interacting with both students and external stakeholders.
- Experience working both independently and as a member of a team; and working collaboratively with a variety of people.
- Experience in administration working to strict deadlines, coordinating multiple activities concurrently.
- Comfortable using online design software including Canva.
- Understanding of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi – Te Tiriti O Waitangi.
