STEM Tutor – Taranaki
Join Pūhoro and support rangatahi Māori in STEMM!
Pūhoro is a kaupapa Māori organisation committed to empowering Māori students in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Mātauranga) – from secondary school through to tertiary study and into the workforce.
We are seeking a Casual Tutor to support our secondary school taiohi in Taranaki
About the Role
As a STEM Tutor, you will work alongside a Pūhoro Kaihautū (student mentor) to deliver biology, chemistry, physics, and/or mathematics tutorials at NCEA Levels 1 and 2.
Tutorials are delivered through a Māori lens, ensuring culturally grounded and effective learning experiences for rangatahi.
You will visit up to eight high schools per fortnight, with each tutoring session comprising:
· One hour of preparation and travel
· One hour of tutorial delivery
This is a casual contract role with flexible hours ranging from 2 to 12 hours per fortnight, depending on the number of sessions delivered and the location of these sessions. All necessary resources will be provided, and you will be supported by Pūhoro kaimahi.
You will be required to travel outside of New Plymouth for visits to regional schools. You’re welcome to travel in a Pūhoro vehicle with the Kaihautū or take your own vehicle.
What We’re Looking For

· Previous experience tutoring or teaching STEM subjects
