Employer and Student Guidelines

Employer Guidelines

SJS is committed to providing students with a fair, reasonable, safe and easy way to enter the employment market. As part of this philosophy SJS is not prepared to accept job advertisements from employers, industries or enterprises where there is an unacceptable risk to the health and safety of students, or an intension to discriminate on prohibited grounds, either directly or indirectly (refer Human Rights Act 1993).

By agreeing to these terms and conditions, you are agreeing not to advertise jobs that will not be beneficial to our students. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Jobs that are exploitative of students on the grounds of gender, race or sexual orientation
  • Jobs that are contrary to community standards
  • Jobs that are in contravention of New Zealand Employment law
  • Jobs that are illegal or have the potential to be in breach of the law
  • Jobs that could place students at risk of physical or serious psychological harm
  • Jobs where students are left vulnerable or exploited
  • Jobs where it is indicated that selection will involve discrimination on prohibited grounds
  • Jobs that are deemed to be inherently dangerous

Student Job Search reserves the right to delete from its website any job which it believes will not be beneficial to students.

Student Job Search does not charge a success fee to employers, but we are funded in direct relation to the number of students we place in work. Therefore, to use our services, we need you to provide us with the name of the student you have taken on.

We also expect you to behave in an appropriate way toward our student workers - they have the same rights in law as any other employee.

Disclaimer:

SJS does not warrant that the service provided will be uninterrupted, secure or error free.

Student Guidelines

  • You must follow up within 24 hours all job referrals you receive and inform us of each outcome. This includes sending CVs and written applications if required. If you have confirmed employment with one employer, and for any reason decide not to contact other employers to whom you have been referred, you need to contact us immediately so that we can find another student for that job.
  • You must work to reasonable standards of punctuality, effort, personal presentation and output in a job we have referred you to, or selected you for.
  • You must not take a friend or any other person to a job or interview unless that person is a support person who is not being considered for the position, and the employer has been told beforehand.
  • You must not pass on to any other person a job referral we have given you, whether or not that person is enrolled with us. If the employer needs another worker ask them to call us. If you know a student who may be interested in and suitable for the job, ask them to call us.
  • You must not accept a referral to a job from another student where that student has obtained information on that job from us. You must get all Student Job Search referrals from one of our staff members.
  • You must not renegotiate wage rates with an employer for a job to which we have referred you.
  • You must turn up for any job interview you have arranged. If you can’t do this you must advise the employer and us within a reasonable time.
  • You must turn up to any job you have accepted unless you inform us within a reasonable time.
  • You must not harass an employer or behave in an offensive manner at work towards an employer at a job you have been referred to by Student Job Search.
  • You must not deliberately give us or an employer any false or misleading information, or withhold information which is relevant to the job you are going for.
  • You must not turn up to a job to which we have referred you either drunk or under the influence of non-prescribed drugs.
  • You must not verbally or physically abuse or sexually harass any of our staff or other students on our premises.
  • You must not steal or damage any of our property or that of any employer to whom we have referred you.

You may face temporary suspension of more than two weeks or be permanently denied access to our services nationwide if you seriously compromise our service.

This may be applied if you break any of the rules listed above

Disputes with Employers
If you have a dispute with an employer that you have been unable to resolve we suggest you advise SJS.  We will use our best endeavours to assist with the resolution of the dispute, as far as time permits.
